S. Truett Cathy, the founder of Chick-fil-A, has died. Cathy passed peacefully surrounded by family in his home. The 93-year-old began his chain in 1946 and grew it over time with 36 stores in the country. The restaurant’s family values caught national attention in 2012, when Truett stood close to his religious beliefs and voiced his disapproval of gay marriage. The controversy didn’t affect the company however, as the billionaire was named one of the wealthiest people in the U.S by Forbes. Funeral proceedings will take place in Jonesboro, Georgia this Sunday. [ABC News]

Chicago Fire actress Molly Glynn died over the weekend in a freak accident after riding bicycles with her husband. The seasoned theater actress and her husband Joe Foust were riding their bikes when they were caught in a storm. A tree was uprooted and fell on the actress as she tried to find shelter. Lynn leaves behind her husband and her two sons, Chance, 17, and Declan, 13. [Chicago Tribune]

While you were working, a nine-year-old decided to take a city bus out for a joy ride, well, because. The child from Saskatchewan, Canada was in his pajamas when he drove the city bus for three blocks. He was too short for the brakes, so he stood up the entire time. After hitting another bus and a pick-up truck, the little thief’s joyride was over. He wasn’t charged with a crime because of his age. A single mother who helped her daughter find abortion pills online has been sentenced to a year in prison. Jennifer Ann Whalen, 39, from Washingtonville, Pennsylvania, purchased the pills for her 16-year-old daughter when she discovered she was pregnant and did not want to keep the child. Whalen claimed that she didn’t have the money for her daughter to have an abortion and there weren’t any clinics close to their home. She also has to pay a $1,000 fine and complete community service after her release. [Reuters]

All hail women. Or taxi cabs, that is. Now there is a new taxi service run by women who only pick up women. SheRides will open in NYC, Westchester County, and Long Island in mid-September to offer rides exclusively to women, as a way to help women join an industry that has long been dominated by men. And lastly, Panera Bread with all their freshly baked pastry and soupy goodness is the latest company to ask customers not to bring guns into its restaurants. “The request is simply we recognize everyone’s rights,” said Panera CEO Ron Shaich during a phone interview Monday. “But we also recognize that we are building communities in our cafes and are where people come to catch a breath.” Read about it here…[CNBC]
