League officials in the NFL tell TMZ they did not see footage of Ray Rice punching then-fiance Janay Palmer in the face before deciding to suspend the Ravens running back for two games.

A league spokesperson tells us … “We requested from law enforcement any and all information about the incident, including the video from inside the elevator. That video was not made available to us and no one in our office has seen it until today.”

TMZ has released video of Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice punching his then-fiancée Janay Palmer in an elevator at the Revel Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City.

The February 2014 incident resulted in a lenient two-game suspension for Rice. But until this point, the public had only seen video of Rice dragging an unconscious Palmer out of the elevator.

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell had access to the full video, including footage of the punch that knocked Palmer out, and used it to determine Rice’s controversial punishment.

From Deadspin:

Both Rice and Palmer were charged with simple assault in the Feb. 15 incident. In March, a grand jury cranked up the charge against Rice to third-degree aggravated assault, a felony; the charge against Palmer was dropped altogether. In May, Rice entered a diversionary program that would allow him to avoid trial. Upon completion of the one-year program, his assault charge will be dismissed.

Palmer and Rice were married shortly after the incident. It is unclear if Palmer gave consent for the video to be released. You can visit TMZ to watch the full video.
