K. Michelle has one of the best voices in R&B right now, she writes her own music, and as far as looks go, we give her a “B” for bangin’.
Still, the “V.S.O.P” singer has had a really hard time in the industry, beefing with the likes of Tamar Braxton and Elle Varner, going at it with multiple exes in Twitter wars, and more.
Now, K. is trying to let the past be the past and push away from the negativity, recently sitting down with Necole Bitchie to discuss not having it all together, wanting to find balance in the industry, being in love, and more.
She also reveals she was a “glorified side chick” recently, and plays coy when it comes to Idris Elba‘s package.

On what K. Michelle sees when she looks in the mirror:
When I look in the mirror, I see a woman who does not fully have it together. But a woman who is trying. A woman who’s more comfortable [with herself]. I used to hate how I looked. And I like myself [now]. I like how I look, and I’m not ashamed of the adjustments to my body. I do not hide them. And when I look in the mirror, I don’t think the adjustments made me more secure so I feel good about that.
I think just me saying, ‘This is me and I am beautiful and this is it.’ I don’t think the titties made me feel no more beautiful. The teeth did because I looked like I was chewing rocks, but I just look at myself as a woman. I’m almost there- I look at myself [and] I got a long way to go but I’m doing all right. I’m doing way better than I was.
On the last time K. Michelle was in love:
The last time I was in love was recently and it was very secretive and quiet. And he had a baby that was about to be born. And yeah, that was very- I think – I [even wanna] cry- that was very hurtful.
Necole: “He told you about the baby?”
Yeah, he told me about the baby that was about to be born. But he also told me that…you know, we always wanna listen to men and we always want to make excuses for them in order not to pay attention and basically, I was like a glorified side-chick. And sometimes you don’t even know you’re the side-chick until you look back and say, ‘Damn b-tch, I was the side-chick, gotdamn.’ But he had a baby and he just wasn’t for the baby’s mother. And you know, he wasn’t about her. And he spent a lot of time with me for eight months. A lot of time with me, here in America, a lot of time was spent. So I just… yeah!
On being linked to Idris Elba and if he’s packing:
[Laughs] So you are asking me about that??? You know what? Out of respect for Idris, I really don’t wanna speak on that. I just, um, I really…
Necole: “I’m just trying to figure out because I’m seeing pictures on the internet and I’m hearing little groupie tales and they’re are saying it’s tiny and then I see [photos and he says it’s] microphone wires and anacondas-“
It was a microphone wire. But yea, just out of respect of him and our situation, he’s a great person. Other than that, it is what it is, man. I respect him.
I respect everything. He believed in me when nobody did. Thanks for the musical. He believed in me when no one did and things in life happen. Life happens.
