A brother and sister were shot and killed just blocks away from each other over the weekend in St. Louis.

Police are investigating the deaths of siblings Margaree Dixson and Jermaine Jones. The shootings took place in the north St. Louis area. Dixson, a mother of one, was shot multiple times in the hands, head, chest, and arms. She was pronounced dead at the scene around 11:45 p.m.

At 2:10 a.m. a few blocks from Dixson, her brother and father of three was shot in the chest and leg. The 29-year-old was taken to the hospital by friends and died around 3:00 a.m.

It is not known whether the two homicides were related, but the two victims, Margaree Dixson and Jermaine Jones, were siblings, a police spokeswoman confirmed Sunday.

St. Louis police said they were called to the 5600 block of Lillian Avenue at 11:41 p.m. Saturday, where Dixson, 35, was found in the street.

Police later responded to a shooting a few blocks away at Saloma and Wren avenues about 2:10 a.m. Police were told the victim had already been taken by friends or acquaintances to Barnes-Jewish Hospital. The victim, Jermaine Jones, 29, of the 6800 block of Frostview Lane in Berkeley, had been shot in the chest and a leg.

Police interviewed three men at the hospital; they said they were standing in the 5700 block of Saloma when a man fired shots at them.

Two guns were found in the victims’ vehicle. An unoccupied house and vehicle in the 4900 block of Wren were damaged by gunfire. No one else was injured.

The victims’ family spoke to reporters about their sudden losses.

“There’s too much violence going on,” said Nicole Rice, sister of Dixson and Jones. “I can’t sleep. I can’t think. It can’t work. I can’t do anything wondering if my son will be a victim to the streets.”

The family is also looking for donations to help to bury the siblings.

Police announced a cash reward will be given to anyone with information about the murders. Witnesses can contact Crimestoppers anonymously by dialing 1-866-371-TIPS.
