So this happened.

A plainclothes New York Police Department (NYPD) officer rushing to help a colleague make an arrest in Coney Island’s Stillwell Avenue subway station kicked a fellow cop after mistaking him for the suspect.

In the karma video above, you can see the officer, who is dressed in a hooded sweatshirt and construction boots, walk up to the scuffle and kick the cop in his head. A loud thud can be heard on the video. A woman in the background can be heard saying “he kicked a cop.”

Realizing he kicked the wrong person, the cop gives his colleague a pat on the head. Then he hauls off and punches the suspect because…well, because police.

The officer, whose identity was not released, was placed on modified duty and stripped of his gun and badge after video of the January incident surfaced. The incident is being investigated by the NYPD’s Internal Affairs Bureau and the office of Brooklyn District Attorney Kenneth Thompson, because police policing police is totally objective and unbiased.

As we’ve learned.

Police Commissioner Bill Bratton recently told a meeting of his top NYPD brass that he was committed to rooting out “bad apples” engaged in brutality and corruption who are tarnishing the successful work the police have done on driving crime to record-low levels.

[…]

Thompson said, “My office is working with Commissioner Bratton to ensure that every member of the community is treated with dignity and respect.”

NYPD officials have not made any additional comments about the latest example of police brutality. But we’re willing to bet the injured cop had a thing or two to say about the boot to the back of the head.
