Jose Canseco ended up in a Las Vegas hospital Tuesday night after he accidentally shot himself in the hand.
The former baseball player was at home with his fiancée Leila Knight when he shot himself in his left middle finger as he was cleaning his gun. The couple says they had no idea the gun was loaded.
Canseco’s fiancee, model Leila Knight, told the Los Angeles Times that he was cleaning his gun in the kitchen when it fired.
“I heard the gun go off and saw his middle finger hanging by a string,” she told the newspaper. “It will either have to be amputated or have full reconstruction surgery.”
Leila gave updates on Jose’s condition throughout the evening and also snapped at people making fun of his injury.

The player was made fun of by plenty of people on Twitter, including the legendary Bette Midler.
Jose Canseco accidentally shot off a finger while cleaning his gun. His right to bear arms got in the way of his right to have fingers.

Since walking away from baseball, Canseco has been ridiculed for his steroid use and his tell-all, Juiced: Wild Times, Rampant ‘Roids, Smash Hits & How Baseball Got Big.
It’s currently unknown if the player had his finger removed or not, but sources say if it was reattached, it will not be fully functional.
