3D Heights isn’t just NY native Jerry Castanos’ pride and joy, it’s hope for the world of medicine, art, and so much more.

With technology changing as we speak, 3D printing (also known as additive manufacturing), has become an innovative way to bring digital files to life. In an interview with GlobalGrind, Castanos takes us on a tour of his business 3D Heights, located in Washington Heights, and explains the inventive market of 3D printing and what it means for the future of small businesses, education, and the possible launch of new jobs in the process.

“There’s been a strong boom in 3D printing in the last couple of years,” he said. “It’s been around for over 30 years. 3D printing has been very expensive but patents have expired, allowing the creation of desktop 3D printers for the regular consumer. So we’re seeing them being used in the entrepreneurial markets, middle school, high school, and medical applications to create prosthetics. It’s really finding a lot of avenues in different applications.”

The industrial robots have been instrumental to major companies like Disney and Nintendo. Researchers are even coming closer to making a 3D vehicle.
