When the Chappelle Show aired its final episode, it was—sorry for being so dramatic—the end of an era. Unfortunately, Dave Chapelle will not be bringing his sketch comedy series back to the small screen, but after ending his “self-imposed exile” that he likened to Superman’s, the comedian is making his way back to the frontline, saving us from unfunniness everywhere.
He exited stage left and fled to Africa after tumultuous times between he and the show’s co-creator Neal Brennan—or at least that’s what people think happened. As GQ magazine’s “Man of the Year,” he’s now setting the story straight inside their annual issue. Oh, and his trip to Africa was only, like, two weeks long, by the way.

On his 10 sold-out shows at Radio City:
“I have a show-business bucket list. There’s just certain things that every entertainer always dreamed of doing. When I was 19, I used to walk up Sixth Avenue and look at the marquee of Radio City. I’d see the lines outside. I’d be like ‘Man, I just want to…Radio City!’…It just so happened the venue was open during the same time frame I was willing to play.”
On what else is on his bucket list:
“For one year, I want to do this thing where I guest-star on as many television shows as I possibly can,” he explains. “I’d be a zombie on The Walking Dead. A corpse on CSI. I’d be the first black guy to fuck Olivia Pope on Scandal…”
What he thinks about the Donald Sterling situation:
“Ultimately, I don’t think he should have lost his team. I don’t like the idea that someone could record a secret conversation and that a person could lose their assets from that, even though I think what he said was awful.”
