An assistant principal at a Norfolk, Va. high school is under some major criticism after she retweeted a joke about interracial dating that students are describing as racist.

In response, the students at Booker T. Washington High School walked out of class Monday in an act of protest. Amy Strickland’s tweet, retweeted from the account @OrNahhTweets, showed a group of white teenagers with black teenagers as prom dates.

The caption? “Every white girl’s father’s worst nightmare or nah?”

Michael Lemelle was just one of the many students who took offense to the racial tweet.

“Those comments should really be kept to herself,” Michael LeMelle, a junior at Booker T. Washington, told WAVY.com.

“I could have been any one of the boys in the picture,” Michael said. “And I really don’t see myself, like I said earlier, as anyone’s worst nightmare.”

Students are pushing for the school’s principal, Adrian Day (who is black) to take action against the assistant principal.

Strickland’s Twitter account has since been deactivated.
