A man with a knife in Los Angeles’ Hollywood area was shot and killed by police yesterday.

The unnamed officers were called to the Hollywood and Highland intersection on Friday evening after receiving word of an assault with a deadly weapon. Police arrived at the scene and discovered an armed man carrying a knife and immediately shot one round at him.

According to the Daily Mail:

The man was rushed to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center with serious injuries, where he remained in a critical condition for several hours before passing away, according to KTLA. No officers were injured.

The events leading up to the shooting at around 7pm remain unknown. The busy intersection, which is in the heart of Hollywood’s entertainment and tourism district, has been blocked off to traffic.

Eyewitnesses at the scene have said that they heard a number of gunshots. The incident occurred in a high-traffic tourist area, where dozens of people looked shocked at what happened.

According to NBCLosAngeles:

A man with a combination pocket knife was shot and killed by police Friday night near the Hollywood Walk of Fame, police said. One woman said a man ran into a McDonald’s shouting that police shot his friend, who sometimes “liked to wave a knife to scare tourists.” A graphic photo from a witness showed officers standing over a man with guns pointing toward him as he lay in a crosswalk.

Is this another case of police brutality or are they simply doing their job?
