Bill Cosby’s attempting to look for allies in the media … and it isn’t going well.
Apparently, Mr. Cosby believes “the black media” should stay neutral in the wake of the endless claims of sexual assault aimed at the comedian.
The comedian briefly talked with Page Six on Friday and refused to comment on the myriad of assault charges against him, instead focusing on the types of publications reporting the allegations:
Reached at his Massachusetts home, the star declined to address the rape and sex abuse allegations from an ever-growing list of women that now includes supermodel Beverly Johnson.
Instead, Cosby, 77, said that the African-American media should be impartial.
“Let me say this. I only expect the black media to uphold the standards of excellence in journalism and when you do that you have to go in with a neutral mind,” Cosby said.
Cosby didn’t explain why black media should stay neutral, but we’re guessing the comedian expects “his people” to be on his side because…ignorance.
When asked how his wife Camille was handling the scrutiny, Cosby answered:
“Love and the strength of womanhood,” he said. “Let me say it again, love and the strength of womanhood. And, you could reverse it, the strength of womanhood and love.”
Then Cosby cut off the conversation. “They don’t want me talking to the media,” he said.
The comedian has been stripped of many of his honors from Temple University, the US Army and recently, Spelman College. The school announced this weekend the William and Camille Olivia Hanks Cosby Endowed Professorship would be suspended indefinitely. The program was created in 1988, with the couple donating $20 million.
“The William and Camille Olivia Hanks Cosby Endowed Professorship was established to bring positive attention and accomplished visiting scholars to Spelman College in order to enhance our intellectual, cultural and creative life. The current context prevents us from continuing to meet these objectives fully. Consequently, we will suspend the program until such time that the original goals can again be met.”
Cosby’s attorneys Martin Singer and John B. Schmitt advised the comedian not to comment on the seemingly endless amount of cases currently filed against him.
