On Thursday, Bobby Shmurda, real name Ackquille Pollard, pled not guilty to conspiracy and weapons possession charges following his arrest earlier this week.

Shmurda was ordered held on $2 million bail at a hearing in the state Supreme Court in Manhattan, although his lawyer, Howard Greenberg, insisted his client should be released without bail because he had no reason to run.

“He is a legitimate entertainer,” Greenberg said. “He is rich. He is busy. He is always on tour.”

If you recall, Shmurda was arrested Wednesday on conspiracy, reckless endangerment, and gun possession after he left a recording studio near Radio City Music Hall. Police say they found two handguns on the rapper, known for his hit “Hot Boy,” and a small amount of cocaine in the car he was a passenger in.

Greenberg said Epic Records agreed to help the Brooklyn rapper make bail, but a spokesperson for the label declined to comment.

In addition to the $2 million bail, New York prosecutors also claim Shmurda was the “driving force” in the “gang” of 15 arrested on gun and drug charges. Court papers also say Shmurda fired a gun outside a Brooklyn barber shop earlier this year.

According to TMZ:

Prosecutors from the NYC Special Narcotics Office just released their indictment, claiming more than 15 defendants committed a variety of crimes, including murder, attempted murder, assault and drug dealing. Bobby himself was charged with conspiracy to commit murder but not the murder itself and a few other weapon and drug charges.

Bobby — who at one time called himself “Two Socks Bobby” — is charged with firing a gun at a group of people outside a barber shop. Prosecutors say “socks” is code for firearms.

According to the indictment, members of the gang used other code words, including “suntan,” which means shooting someone.

The complaint says Bobby confessed to a fellow gang member, “You know I suntan him and shot, do issues, you know what’s going on.”
