After the killings of two NYPD police officers last week, the force is on high alert, arresting a man who allegedly wanted to take out his own hit against police officers.

Elvin Payamps was arrested over the holidays after he was heard stating he wanted to follow in the footsteps of Ismaaiyl Brinsley and murder police officers. The Queens, New York native suggested to a friend they should plan out the attack before Christmas Wednesday afternoon. Close by, former cop Charles Otero heard Payamps and called 911.

The alleged threat comes just weeks after NYPD officers Wenjian Liu and Rafael Ramos were murdered execution-style by Brinsley before he took his own life.

“I’m going to kill another cop. We should do it before Christmas. The cop should have been white that was killed. I always have a gun on me,” he is alleged to have said.

Otero called 911, and Payamps was later stopped by the police. He was found to have marijuana on his person and was taken into custody.

Police then searched his home, which was less than a mile from the Christ Tabernacle Church where Rafael Ramos’ funeral will be held on Saturday.

Aside from the drug charge, Payamps was also charged with felony weapons charges, felony aggravated harassment, and unlawful use of a police uniform. Upon his arrest, police found a Jimenez Arms 9mm pistol and a Mossberg Maverick 12-gauge shotgun with defaced serial numbers, and two bullet-proof vests.

Although Payamps made a threat towards the cops, officials say it wasn’t enough to officially charge him with attempted murder.

‘The case is serious,’ said Queens Criminal Court Judge Stephanie Zaro. ‘But the law does not allow me to remand on a C violent felony,’ she said, in reference to the weapons charge.

Payamps is currently being held on a $500,000 bond.
