The 72nd Golden Globe Awards are airing this weekend and we can hardly wait.
With Amy Poehler and her BFF Tina Fey slated to host for the third year in a row, we’re sure the show will be another one for the books. The pair will be joined by a seemingly endless list of presenting celebrities, including Lupita Nyong’o, Jennifer Aniston, Kerry Washington, and many more.
The Golden Globes, where, as Amy stated in 2013, “the beautiful people of film rub shoulders with the rat-faced people of television,” have also hosted, or at least been present for, some of the most hilariously inappropriate or awkward moments in award show history.

1. The time Ricky Gervais made a Holocaust joke while slandering the Hollywood Foreign Press.
Maybe it was the alcohol, maybe it was the bitterness of losing, but at the 2009 award show, Ricky joked with fellow Brit Kate Winslet about the fact that Holocaust movies will bring in the awards. The joke was well-received, but even he acknowledged that it was a bit out of line.
2. Ricky Gervais’ opening monologue at the 68th Golden Globes.
During his opening monologue in 2011, Ricky went all out. No star was too big for the comedian’s sharp tongue–he came after Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp‘s The Tourist, Sex and the City 2, and even Hugh Hefner.
3. The time Kate Winslet forgot all about Angelina Jolie.
Losing sucks and the last thing one needs is to have all the attention focused on them right after losing an award. Well, an overjoyed Kate Winslet inadvertently put Brad’s wifey in the spotlight as she attempted to pay her fellow thespians homage while accepting the award for Best Actress in 2009.
4. Tina Fey and Amy Poehler’s opening monologue.
During their first time hosting the show, the two gal pals did not hold back. They went after James Cameron, revealed that Quentin Tarantino was part of their sexual nightmares, poked fun at the notable Daniel Day-Lewis, and like their predecessor, went after the Hollywood Foreign Press.
5. The Taylor Swift joke heard around the world.
As the 2013 show got “sloppier,” Tina offered some relationship advice to the country sweetheart. Needless to say, she did not take it well.
6. Taylor Swift reacts to Adele.
Shade, or nah? New mom Adele was over-the-moon as she accepted the award for Best Original Song. In true Adele fashion, she made the room laugh with all her quirky Adele-isms. Taylor, on the other hand, didn’t seem to be amused.
7. Jodie Foster’s non-coming out speech.
Is she or isn’t she? Doesn’t really matter. However, the fact that Jodie alludes to being gay throughout her acceptance of the Cecile B. Demille Award, but never really admitted it, made for such an awkward speech.
8. Tina Fey and Amy Poehler’s opening speech at the 71st ceremony.
During their second time around, the dynamic duo took no prisoners–they referenced George Clooney‘s love for younger women, slavery, and even called Matt Damon a “garbage person.”
9. Tina Fey pulls the ultimate Tina Fey.
Like a true comedienne, Tina took Taylor Swift’s comments from the previous year and used them to make the entire room laugh.
10. The time the teleprompter failed a rookie.
Poor Margot Robbie. As she and fellow Wolf of Wall Street co-star Jonah Hill went to present their movie, the teleprompter was stuck and for some seconds that must have felt like a lifetime, they both just stared and grappled to find what to say. Help came in the form of a script, but it was too late.
