A gunman is in police custody after holding two hostages captive for more than an hour at a Paris post office Friday. The standoff, which began before 1 p.m. (6 a.m. ET) was diffused within an hour and a half. The incident was not linked to the terrorism Paris has experienced in the past two weeks, authorities said. Arizona does it again. The conservative state may become the first U.S. state to require students to pass a civics exam based on U.S. citizenship before graduation. Both chambers of the Arizona Legislature approved the bill Thursday, which would require students to answer 60 out of 100 questions correctly in order to graduate. The legislation was part of an initiative led by the Joe Foss Institute located in Scottsdale, Arizona — the Marine Corps pilot and South Dakota governor was dedicated to teaching young Americans about freedom and public service. An Alabama woman was sentenced to 219 years in prison for running an incest sex ring that included the molestation of children for years. Wendy Holland, 35, was also convicted of sodomy, sexual abuse, and other charges last month. Holland was among 12 charged with sex crimes following the disappearance of a suspected victim, a 19-year-old girl. She remains missing. Read about it here…[AP]
