Houston rapper Doughbeezy is recovering in the hospital after one of two attackers pistol-whipped him during a home invasion.

The rapper, real name Tai Carr, managed to get a gun out of his car during the scuffle and fatally shot one of the suspects. The identity of the assailant has not been released.

Doughbeezy took to Instagram in a now-deleted post to recount the details of the attempted robbery.

When the gunman got instructed to shoot me, he froze. When they tried to kidnap me in my own car, I was able to fight my way out the car before being pistol whipped. After being pistol whipped, my friend and her family pulled up and we all got instructed to go in the house and that’s when God made a way for to break loose and make it back to my trunk for my pistol. If I never was able to break away for my trunk, I wouldn’t be here today telling you this story.

Stop and take a second to thank God for very thing you have. And when you’re done, take a moment to tell your family and the people close to you that you love them. My daughter will be born in a week and if it wasn’t for God, I wouldn’t be here to see her to see her take her first breath. #Blessed

According to the Houston Chronicle, the woman mentioned in Doughbeezy’s post was Dwan Banks, a resident of the Cottage Grove community.

Banks, owner of Rapture Recordz, a local hip-hop recording company, recognized the two men: DoughBeezy, a Houston rapper who made headlines with his song “I’m from Texas” on his 2014 album, “Footprints on the Moon.”

The rapper, whose real name is Tai Carr, is a friend of her son’s, she said.

But on that night, Carr yelled at her.

“Get back in the car, you’re being robbed!” he warned, as the other man attacked him.

He told her later that he arrived at her home and saw one of the men hiding in her driveway by her trash can and barbecue grill.

Banks knew that man. It was a relative of an ex-boyfriend, someone she hadn’t seen for years.

By then it was too late, she was already out of her vehicle, and the attackers were forcing her and her children into the condo. In the six years she’s lived there, she’s never had problems, she said – but that night was a different situation.

“Don’t let them hurt my kids,” she thought, remembering trying to stay calm to not scare her young daughter.

In all of the scuffle, Carr managed to get a gun out of his car and fatally shoot one of the two attackers, she said.

“He laid there for a minute,” a shaken Banks said as she sat in her SUV while a relative cleaned up blood left on her staircase. “It was over instantly.”

The second suspect, identified as 23-year-old Marquez Romero Heckard, fled to a Wendy’s restaurant. He was found hiding in a restroom a short time later. He faces three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and one case of aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon, according to court records.

A Harris County grand jury will review the incident to determine if any additional charges will be filed in this case.
