Marissa Alexander, the woman who fired off warning shots at her estranged, abusive husband, has been released from prison as part of her plea deal from November that reduced her 20 years.

The 34-year-old mother had been locked up since 2010, when the case began, and has finally been released to go back home, according to local Jacksonville station 4JAX. Although she will be home, she will have to use an electronic monitor for two years, and will have to pay for it out of her own pocket.

The site reports:

The case began in August 2010. Nine days after giving birth to her daughter, Alexander was assaulted and threatened by her estranged husband, Rico Gray. Alexander then left the house to get a gun from the garage, returned and fired a shot in the direction of Gray.

Alexander claimed it was a warning shot but a jury disagreed, convicting her on three counts of aggravated armed assault in just 12 minutes. She was sentenced to 20 years in prison under Florida’s minimum sentencing guidelines for using a firearm.

Back in 2012, Alexander was convicted of three counts of aggravated assault by a jury, despite fighting them under the “Stand Your Ground” law, but the conviction was overturned on appeal due to an error in jury instructions.
