The Detroit police officer responsible for the death of Aiyana Stanley-Jones is walking away a free man. Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy announced to reporters on Wednesday that Officer Joseph Weekly will not be charged for the 7-year-old’s death. In 2010, Weekly fired his gun during a botched raid and killed the child while she was sleeping on the couch with her grandfather.

“Today we personally informed the family of Aiyana Stanley–Jones that we have made a decision that we would not be going to trial for a third time in the Joseph Weekley case,” Worthy said.

Weekly was charged with involuntary manslaughter and careless discharge of a firearm causing death. His first trial in 2013 ended in a mistrial and a judge dismissed the manslaughter charge during the second case. [Huff Post

A college student was brutally attacked by police canines after leaving a party near Norfolk State University in Virginia.

The incident took place early Monday morning, when 21-year-old London Colvin was leaving an off-campus party with friends. Police were called after a fight broke out at the party. While Colvin was leaving, she was questioned about what took place, leading to a confrontation with police. Colvin, who is also a member of the Army Reserve, told police she didn’t know any information about the fight. Instead of letting her go, she was restrained by the police. After she was pinned down on the ground, a police canine attacked her, causing multiple wounds to her legs.

Norfolk police spokesman Daniel Hudson claims the dog was there to protect witnesses from the alleged 35-person fight.

“We responded to a massive fight that happened in the street. Apparently there was a call for about 35 individuals who were partaking in a physical fight in the middle of the street. And once we have that multitude of people, we always have our canine officers respond out there with us for crowd management,” Hudson said.

Retired Air Force veteran William Wingate is finally getting justice after he was arrested last summer for no apparent reason.

The 70-year-old was walking down the street in Seattle when a police officer approached him. The disabled vet – who uses a golf club for a cane – was accused of using it as a weapon against the police officer. Their encounter can be seen in the above video at the 1:40 mark. Wingate shows no signs of using the club as a weapon and is thoroughly confused when officer Cynthia Whitlatch interrogates him. Backup was called and Wingate was jailed overnight for harassment and obstruction charges. He was also charged for misdemeanor charge of unlawful use of a weapon against the second police officer.

Wingate was later cleared of all charges and Whitlatch was prescribed counseling sessions from her supervisor. Check out how a group of council members cleared Wingate’s name here…[The Stranger
