In our latest edition of WTF News, a man who alleged police beat him up was caught on video punching himself, and another who was pulled over for driving under the influence had a pretty brilliant plan to throw off cops.

Obviously he was caught. That’s why we’re writing this story. Check it out below.

Self Brutality:

A California man who claimed cops beat him up was put on blast when video of him punching his own face surfaced Tuesday.

From the Associated Press:

The sheriff’s department said Tuesday the footage shows 33-year-old Aleksander Robin Tomaszewski (tom-uh-SHEV’-skee) hitting himself, leaving two black eyes.

Investigators say he told them he hoped filing a complaint would get him released.

Authorities say the Lucerne, California, man was brought in for questioning Jan. 9 on an unrelated case that’s under investigation.

Welp. That didn’t work. Tomaszewski was charged with initiating a false report and attempted coercion. He faces a $500 fine and was sentenced to 20 days in jail. Read more here… [AP]

On Thin Ice:

Two New Jersey men are facing multiple charges after one of them tried to create an elaborate excuse to cover up his drunken hit-and-run crash — black ice.

Brian Byers and Alexander Zambenedetti were arrested early Sunday after Byers returned to the scene and poured water over the intersection to create the black ice.

According to CBS:

An officer patrolling in the area spotted Byers walking in the middle of Sawmill Road and found Zambenedetti sitting in his car with two, five gallon plastic buckets visible in the back seat with some water still inside, police said.

“I’ve never seen anything like this and I’ve been here 21 years,” Sgt. John Lamon, Sparta PD, told CBS2’s Lou Young.

Investigators said they later determined that men were going to report that the accident was caused by the black ice and not because Byers was under the influence of alcohol.

“The original driver of the first vehicle that crashed and left the scene made an admission that that was their intent, was to blame it on the ice so they could collect insurance for the vehicle, for the damage to the vehicle,” Sgt. Dennis Proctor told 1010 WINS.

It’s not clear how many trips were made with the buckets of water, police said.

“You could actually see the skid marks underneath the water they had just put there, so we knew that they had dumped this water over the top of where he lost control of the vehicle rather than the vehicle losing control on the ice itself,” Proctor said.

Byers, 20, faces a DWI charge as well as careless driving, leaving the scene of an accident, and disorderly conduct. His friend, also 20, was charged with DWI, failure to wear a seatbelt, and careless driving.

Both are due in court this week. Read more here… [CBS]
