A group of basketball players from Wisconsin were praised by classmates for defending a bullied cheerleader with down syndrome during a recent game.
According to Bleacher Report, the teens were playing at Lincoln Middle School on Monday when they noticed Desiree Andrews being teased during her routine. Quickly taking action, the teens walked off the court to calmly tell the bullies to stop. Miles Rodriguez, Scooter Terrien, and Chase Vazquez say they believe no one should be teased, no matter who they are.
Since walking off the court to defend Andrews, the cheerleader says she’s become friends with the guys. The team also thought of a new name for the gym–D’s House.
“It’s not fair when other people get treated wrong because we’re all the same. We’re all created the same. God made us the same way,” said Scooter Terrien, Lincoln Middle School basketball player. “When I heard they were talking about her like, it kind of like made me mad,” said Miles Rodriguez, Lincoln Middle School basketball player.
The eighth graders played their last game earlier this week but are working with school administrators to make a banner in Andrews’ honor.
