No surprises here.

Although Kanye West may be the first person that comes to mind when you think of male fashion icons in the entertainment industry, Pharrell Williams deserves his props as well. This year he’s getting them; Skateboard P will be the recipient of the Council of Fashion Designers of America’s Fashion Icon of the Year award.

It shouldn’t come as a surprise. If you think about it, Pharrell has had a great impact on fashion. Remember the ridiculously high Vivienne Westwood Buffalo hat he wore to the 2014 Grammys? And how that hat then became a trend when everyone started rocking them? He’s also the co-founder of Billionaire Boys Club and Ice Cream footwear, clothing brands that have become staples in streetwear style.

CFDA President Diane von Furstenberg released the following statement praising Pharrell:

“If cool was a person, it would be Pharrell, not just for his looks and sense of style but for his kindness and openness. I cannot imagine anyone not seduced by him.”

Pharrell will follow in the footsteps of past recipients Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Iman, and Nicole Kidman, just to name a few. Not bad company to keep.

After losing the “Blurred Lines” lawsuit, we’re hoping this will raise his “Happy” spirits.
