A pregnant woman from Colorado is in stable condition after her baby was removed from her womb during a stabbing at a Craigslist meet-up.

The tragic incident happened after a 26-year-old answered a Craigslist ad for baby clothes in Longmont on Wednesday, reports CNN. The mother-to-be was alone when 34-year-old Dynel Lane attacked her with a knife.

Neighbors heard screams and found the victim on the floor with stab wounds to her stomach. The fetus was missing from her womb. Lane took the child to the hospital, claimed the baby as her own, and said she had suffered a miscarriage. The child did not survive. The mother was taken to Longmont United Hospital, where she is currently surrounded by family members.

Longmont Police Cmdr. Jeff Satur informed reporters Lane has been charged with attempted first-degree murder, first-degree assault, and child abuse knowingly/recklessly resulting in death.

Longmont police are asking anyone who may have responded to a Craigslist ad for baby clothes, posted by “D” or “Dynel,” or perhaps traveled to her home on Green Place in Longmont, to call (303) 651-8523.

It’s expected that bond will be set at Lane’s first court appearance, scheduled for Thursday afternoon at the Boulder County Jail, he said.

“She is alert, answering questions and is with family,” Satur said.

Police have alerted Craigslist buyers to travel in pairs and be careful of questionable postings.

In January, Ronnie “Jay” Adrian Towns was charged with the murder of a Georgia couple. The couple traveled to the 28-year-old’s home to buy a vintage car. Towns reportedly killed the elderly couple and dumped their bodies in the woods.
