Justin Bieber‘s much talked about Comedy Central Roast aired last night and amidst all the jokes poking fun at the Biebs, some tasteless moments, some awkward moments, and some actually hilarious commentary, the 21-year-old troublemaker finally had a chance to speak his mind and apologize for his bad behavior.

After the Kevin Hart-helmed two-hour comedy special – which featured appearances by everyone from Will Ferrell to Hannibal Buress and Martha Stewart – Biebs took the stage to respond, make some of his own jokes, and actually get serious for a second. Watch the full speech below – it’s pretty impressive and heartfelt.

Meanwhile, the thing Bieber should be known for – his music – is moving ahead. While chatting with USA Today, the “Baby” singer revealed he is prepping his new album with the help of greats Kanye West and Rick Rubin. He also told the media outlet that he was forced to scrap the album he was working on, as it didn’t reflect his current artistic state.

“It’s changed everything. My whole direction has changed. What you are thinking about all the time is what you write, and now that I’m thinking about more positive things, it completely changes my music,” he said. “I had to re-do my whole (new) album. It was done but it didn’t match up to where I am now and where my head’s at. I want to tell my story, but I also want to give people hope. I lost hope for a while, I was in a dark place, but it’s about getting out of that rut. It’s about knowing there’s sunshine on the other side.”

He expounded on the new album’s theme:

“About growing, being in touch with yourself. What can I say, it’s life experiences, and knowing that you can and get back up and keep going,” he said. “Hope and faith, that’s what’s gotten me through this too, my faith. What I believe in. You’re around some people sometimes and it might taint what you believe. I think that’s what happened with me, I lowered my beliefs.”

Meanwhile, the Biebs confirmed he is, in fact, single.

“Well, at this point in my life I’m so focused on myself that I’m not looking for a girlfriend. I’m just trying to make sure I’m 100 percent so I can add to the person I want to be with,” he said. “I want a girl I can trust, who I can lean on. This business is hard, and I want someone I can confide in.”

Dare we say it, but Justin Bieber might actually be growing up. And we can’t wait to hear his music with Kanye.
