Cosmopolitan came under fire last week, and it’s clear they’re sweating bullets. The magazine has issued an apology for “21 Beauty Trends That Need To Die,” an article published online in January that has been shared 92,000 times since it resurfaced. It didn’t take long for readers to notice that White models were used for “gorgeous” trends, while Black models were used for trends that needed to “die.”

Many readers have called for a boycott of the mag and let out their frustrations on social media. In response, Cosmo issued the following apology, claiming the images were “taken out of context:”

A note from the editor: This article focuses on beauty trends with images that represent those trends. Some images have been taken out of context, and we apologize for any offense. Celebrating all women is our mission, and we will continue to work hard to do that.

Cosmo said they have edited the article, although it has not been taken down. Additionally, they issued a personal apology to supermodel Joan Smalls who, like many, took personal offense:

What do you think of the apology?
