The modeling industry is changing, and girls are not as stick-slim as they used to be.

Gigi Hadid is a young supermodel on the come-up who is apparently more curvaceous than her colleagues. But the 20-year-old clapped back at social media haters who accused her of being too “fat” to walk the runway.

In a heartfelt Instagram post, Gigi defended her butt, abs, and thighs, and made it clear that although the comments got to her, she isn’t quitting her day job. She wrote, in part:

“Yes I have boobs, I have abs, I have a butt, I have thighs, but I’m not asking for special treatment. I’m fitting into the sample sizes. Your mean comments don’t make me want to change my body, they don’t make me want to say no to the designers that ask me to be in their shows, and they definitely don’t change the designers opinions of me.”

Celebrities like Tyra Banks and Kris Jenner showed their support for the beauty, whose mom is Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star – and former model herself – Yolanda Foster. Kris reposted Gigi’s message from her daughter Kendall’s BFF and wrote:

“This is from one of the sweetest, smartest, and most beautiful girl inside and out, in the world. Why do people with no life, no purpose, who are angry and bitter and ignorant, or just plain nasty and mean, choose to bring everyone else down instead of finding the best in others? I will never understand the BULLYS that lurk on Instagram just to try and ruin someone else’s spirit.”

Tyra Banks has also spoken out over the years about having curves in an industry in which it’s usually frowned upon. She weighed in on Gigi’s post by making one of her own, showing her support for Joe Jonas‘ girlfriend:

“I haven’t met you yet @gigihadid but I FEEL you so much. Your words are powerful. Your words are necessary. Your words are vulnerable. Your words are real. Sending you love and hugs. From one model that had curves and a unique walk to another, Tyra.”

Gigi was right; she’s not the first or the last model to have that body type. Check out our gallery of supermodels whose curves, walk, or signature trademark helped set them apart from the pack.
