Nearly two weeks after the NYPD declared hoverboards illegal, the first hoverboard related death has occurred.

A New York City college student decided he wanted to make some extra money by selling a few hoverboards, but things went awry after he was robbed and shot in the stomach and leg, according to police via the NY Daily News.

The 22-year-old man and a friend placed ads on Craiglist advertising five hoverboards for $1,500. Someone responded to the ad and the two parties set up a place to meet: a building on West 138th. The four men showed up, flashed $500, and asked if they could test-drive the boards. After they took off, two of them came back and shot the seller.

Cops have caught one of the assailants, Raheem Adamson, but the gunman is still at large.
