The only thing worse than not winning the lottery is thinking you did.

That’s what happened to a worker at a California nursing home. She received a call from her son Wednesday night saying that she was the winner of the $1.6 billion jackpot; he even sent her a picture of the supposed winning ticket. David Levy, administrator at the Park Avenue Health & Wellness Center in Pomona, said the nursing home burst into celebration after the news started to pour through the hallways.

But it turned out to just be a prank.

It’s a joke. It’s a prank…by my brother,” the 56-year-old nurse’s daughter Jennifer told the Daily News on Thursday night.

The nurse found out her son was joking when she got home that night, according to her daughter. Before the hoax was outed, even California lottery spokesman Russ Lopez was hoping she’d win, adding it “would be a great story.”
