Retail giant ASOS is currently in hot water over a t-shirt that many have deemed racist. The tee in question was advertised on the UK company’s website and features the word “slave” emblazoned across the front. To make matters worse, the shirt is worn by a Black model.

The controversial item was being sold in the ASOS Marketplace, a boutique for independent sellers. Not surprisingly, some users took to social media to share their frustration. In light of the criticism, Liverpool streetwear label Wasted Heroes, the company that created the design, issued the following apology via Twitter:

ASOS also responded to the backlash on its customer service Twitter account and assured consumers that the item had been removed from its site, saying:

“Marketplace is a collection of independent sellers who must agree to our terms and conditions when they join. Whenever we find product that violates our policies we remove it immediately. There is also a ‘report this item’ link under every product picture.”

Tell us your thoughts on the shirt in the comments below.
