With the Oscars receiving backlash for not nominating any people of color, and all the racial turmoil happening in the country, diversity has been the theme of the year.

Now, the fashion world is getting on board with making their industry open and supportive to all ethnicities and nationalities, with style. This year during NYFW, a form of silent protest is tackling one of the fashion industry’s biggest issues (lack of diversity).

A canvas tote, which was designed by New York-based artist Ashley B. Chew, printed with “BLACK MODELS MATTER” written across the front, is the purse and silent protest that has taken the fashion industry by storm.

Zac Posen shared the photo above, writing that diversity is what makes the world beautiful. While the bag’s designer, Ashley Chew, shared a photo of model Shaun Ross rocking it.

Hopefully the audacious purse helps get the point across that diversity is indeed important in every industry.
