Sadly, NYFW is officially winding down. But, there’s a lot to celebrate in what this season had to offer.

It’s common knowledge that the fashion industry doesn’t feature models of color or promote diversity nearly as much as it should. Now, it’s great to see one of fashion’s elite taking a stand to change that. Zac Posen cast predominantly models of color for his February 15 show.

And it was only right, as Zac was inspired by Princess Elizabeth of Toro, a lawyer and the first African woman to be admitted to the English bar.

But this wasn’t the only time the designer made a strong statement. He was also photographed with a bold bag by model Ashley Chew that read, “Black Models Matter.”

In another showing of diversity, Australian model Madeline Stewart graced the runway for Nancy Vuu at Style Fashion Week. Madeline suffers from Down Syndrome, but that didn’t come close to stopping her from winning over the hearts of the audience as she strutted her catwalk.

Own it, Madeline!

Meanwhile, model Leomie Anderson shared her thoughts on fashion’s lack of diversity, not only on the runway, but backstage as well. The model tweeted that black hairstylists and makeup artists are needed behind-the-scenes.

Leomie shared these thoughts while backstage at a show on Wednesday. Although there’s been progress, we’ve still got a long way to go.
