There’s nothing like a woman on her grind.

Yes, there’s been great strides made in the fight for equal opportunity for women. After all, the prospect of having our first female president is more realistic now than ever. Still, there’s no denying that a double standard remains. Which makes it all the more empowering to see a fellow female rise to the level of near world domination.

In honor of Women’s History Month, we’ve gathered quotes from five of our favorite girl bosses in which they share their secrets to success. If you’ve ever wondered how Beyonce earned her crown, or how Oprah became a billionaire, keep scrolling for more.

Beyonce

“I can never be safe; I always try and go against the grain. As soon as I accomplish one thing, I just set a higher goal. That’s how I’ve gotten to where I am.”

Whether it was her first acting job in Austin Powers, or her risky decision to release her 2013 self-titled album without any prior promotion, Beyonce is living proof that stepping outside of your comfort zone brings great reward. In her words, don’t be afraid to “go against the grain.”

Oprah

“My life is fueled by my being, and the being fuels the doing…Everything is fueled by me really wanting to be a better person on Earth.”

Basically, find your purpose. Despite the fact that she’s become one of the world’s most richest and powerful women, none of us can ever say that Oprah has strayed from the original message her work began with: inspiring people to be the best version of themselves.

Anna Wintour

Decisiveness. “It’s a winning trait in a leader and, to some, a fearsome quality in a woman.”

Anna Wintour’s “bitchy” reputation follows her wherever she goes. However, in a podcast interview with Andre Leon Talley, Anna revealed that bitchiness is not, in fact, the secret to her success. Rather, it’s decisiveness.

Kim Kardashian West

Authenticity.”

Whether you love them or hate them, there’s no denying that the Kardashians have built a major business empire. Surprisingly, while many label the family as “fake,” Kim Kardashian reveals that the secret to her brand has been authenticity.

After all, there’s very little that we don’t get to see from this krew.

Hillary Clinton

You should take criticism seriously because you might learn something, but you can’t let it crush you. You have to be resilient to keep moving forward despite whatever the personal setbacks and even insults that come your way might be.”

Politics is a dirty game, and perhaps no one knows this fact better than Hillary Clinton. As a strong female force, she’s endured the brunt of personal attacks from opposing figures. Still, she’s emerged gracefully and is now positioned to possibly become the first female president. How does she do it?
