How is this only David Beckham‘s first time fronting GQ?

After all, the retired soccer star is also a bona fide men’s style aficionado. So, it’s only right that for his first GQ cover, the magazine produces two shots as part of their 5th Annual Style Bible. In both covers, photographed by Alasdair McLellan, David stays true to his suave persona, first wearing a leather jacket by Tom Ford and later, a Dolce & Gabbana suit.

Inside the issue, the usually stoic “Patron Saint of Swagger” opens up about life at home with wife, Victoria Beckham, their four children, and how he’s learned to ignore tabloid rumors:

“I’m secure as a person, as a husband, as a dad. I’ve gone past the point of really worrying, caring,” he says of the relentless tabloids detailing every aspect of his life.

Although he’s been off the field for a few years now, David’s still a busy man who’s learning to juggle his family and business:

“I get physically ill when I have to leave the kids now,” he says. When he’s not out and about, he says, you can find him watching Frozen with his daughter Harper for the hundredth time or binging on Friends reruns.

Still, as any true lover of the game of soccer, he can’t help but think of returning:

“I miss soccer everyday,” he says. “I don’t know whether it’s the athlete in me, or the passion I have for the game: I always think that I can step back on the field and play . . .” He continues: “You know, maybe I could play another year in the U.S. If I was still living in L.A., I’d probably really seriously think about coming back for a year. But we’re living in London, and the kids are happy in the school . . . .”
