Justin Bieber debuted a new look at last night’s iHeartRadio Awards and the people aren’t feeling it.
The 22-year-old appeared on stage with dreadlocks and posted selfies showing his new hairstyle on Instagram. Some users wasted no time in creating comical memes (after all, this is the internet.)
Meanwhile, others weren’t amused and called Biebs out for cultural appropriation.
“People are annoyed cause when black people wear this style they are stereotyped as druggies and are “unkempt” look at Zendaya for example. She had fake dreads and she was stereotyped, But when people such as JB […] wears them its suddenly ‘the latest trend’,” wrote one user.
Although Justin hasn’t officially responded to the controversy, he reportedly told Big Sean, “[People say] you wanna be black and all that stuff, I’m like ‘Its just my hair.”
Looks like this is one thing that Justin won’t be saying “sorry” for.
