Just when you thought Apple‘s stronghold over the music industry couldn’t get any stronger, it will soon.
The Cupertino-based company has recently applied for a patent on a technology that would allow them to censor audio streams during playback. The patent application is available on the database Justia and the technology will allow for removing “unwanted audio” within streams. According to Pitchfork, the application says that an audio player can use “real-time recognition analysis to identify explicit words while playing the audio stream.”
The name of the patent application is “Management, Replacement and Removal of Explicit Lyrics during Audio Playback.” It was filed back in September 2014, but wasn’t made public until March 31, 2016.
This will definitely make listening to music around your parents a lot less awkward. But what do you think?
