Prince‘s sudden death back in April is still hard to grasp for many—especially the people who were around him in the days immediately before it.

Singer Judith Hill reveals that she was on Prince’s private jet with him when he lost consciousness, just six days before his death. She was one of only two other passengers, including the star’s longtime friend Kirk Johnson. Hill revealed that after speaking to Prince over dinner, “his eyes fixed” and if she had not been looking directly at him, she would have assumed he’d fallen asleep.

She told the New York Times, “I thought he was gone. We didn’t have anything on the plane to help him. We knew it was only a matter of time; we had to get down.” Hill says that she and Johnson immediately alerted the pilot, who called air traffic controllers in Chicago for help, reporting an unresponsive man on board.

Prince was given a shot of Narcan, a treatment often used for opioid overdoses, and taken to Trinity hospital, where Hill says the star was “very cooperative” and “serious about getting help.” While there, he told her “I had to fight for my life. I remember hearing your voices from afar and saying to myself, Follow the voices, follow the voices, get back in your body, you gotta to do this.”

Hill added, And he said it was the hardest thing he’d ever done, to get back into his body like that.”

The singer has been working with Prince since 2014 and he produced her 2015 debut album, Back In Time.
