Four years ago, Atlanta native Trinidad Jame$ burst onto the music scene when his debut single “All Gold Everything” became one of the most infectious hits of 2012.
The success of that song and his debut mixtape Don’t Be S.A.F.E. eventually led the then 24-year-old rapper to ink a million dollar deal with Def Jam Records.
Unfortunately, Trinidad’s follow-up 10 Pc. Mild, which featured guest appearances by Gucci Mane, Travi$ Scott, Rich Homie Quan, Young Chop, and Danny Brown, failed to solidify his standing in hip-hop, and a year later, Def Jam announced they dropped the polarizing rapper.
As a firm believer in “everything happens for a reason,” Trinidad didn’t let the failed deal dictate his future in music. Instead, he created his own label, Gold Gang Records.
It’s been four years since he’s had a hit single, but Trinidad’s back and better than ever with his new DJ Mustard-produced song “Just A Lil Thick (She Juicy)” featuring Mystikal and XXL Freshman Lil Dicky. For the last six weeks, “Just A Lil Thick (She Juicy)” has been steadily rising up the Billboard Rhythmic Chart and is currently sitting pretty at number 14.
We caught up with Trinidad Jame$ out in Hollywood, California, where he now resides, to discuss his unsuspecting “comeback,” being written off in hip-hop, giving back to the community, and the weirdness of fame.
Trinidad Jame$ is currently readying his forthcoming new project, which is slated to drop later on this year.
