After weeks of turmoil and terror across the globe and an escalation in the struggles between the Black community and police, we could all use a little positivity right now. Though the world is a complex, and often unjust, place for many, there are angels among us using their profiles and doing what they can to make it a better place.

For many athletes, it’s always been important to be able to use their fame and wealth to give back, and bring up their own communities — Cam Calloway, a hoops star in the STARZ Original Series Survivor’s Remorse, looks to do the same along with his family and loved ones.

This was also exemplified in LeBron James’ powerful ESPY Awards speech. The star stressed the importance of banding together to improve society. LeBron said we have to “go back to our communities, invest our time, our resources, help rebuild them, help strengthen them, help change them. We all have to do better.”

In order to remind ourselves of the good in the world, and to gear up for the season three premiere of our favorite summer comedy series Survivor’s Remorse and see how Cam will continue to grow and embody these principles, we put together a list of some of the most charitable athletes and the ways they’re working to help others.

Eric Berry

The NFL star became an inspiration when he was able to not only beat cancer, but make a triumphant return to the league. Now his foundation helps children in need. He began by creating a beautification process for a park in his hometown of Fairburn, Georgia, and has since moved on to raising money for children dealing with illness so that their families can enjoy the holiday season.

Albert Pujols

The first baseman for the Los Angeles Angels is a hero of his home country, the Dominican Republic. Since gaining international fame as a MLB player, he began The Pujols Family Foundation to help those living in poverty and those living with Down syndrome in the Dominican Republic.

Richard Sherman

When Richard was a student at Dominguez High School in Compton, California, his idol, Magic Johnson, came to speak about the importance of setting and achieving your goals. With that in mind, the Seattle Seahawks cornerback has formed Blanket Coverage to provide school supplies for students in Seattle and across America.

Charles Tillman

The NFL cornerback’s charity was ignited by his own daughter, Tiana, who was diagnosed with a rare heart disease at only three months old. While his daughter later received a heart transplant, the free agent devoted much of his life to the sick children of Chicago with the Charles Tillman Cornerstone Foundation.

Drew Brees

Drew is a local hero in New Orleans for far more reasons than just bringing the Saints their first Super Bowl win. After Hurricane Katrina in 2007, the quarterback announced a partnership with Operation Kids in an attempt to rebuild destroyed facilities such as parks, playgrounds, athletic centers, and after-school mentoring programs.

LeBron James

The NBA great is incredibly vocal about his love for Northeast Ohio, but he has done far more than just bringing a championship to the Cleveland Cavaliers. He started The LeBron James Family Foundation to positively affect the lives of children and young adults through education and co-curricular educational initiatives. He also announced he would spend approximately $41 million to send 1,100 Akron children to college.

Dwyane Wade

Now a member of the Chicago Bulls, the former Miami Heat player has meant so much to both his hometown community of Chicago and his adopted community of Miami. Wades World Foundation works to provide community-based organizations that promote education, health, and social skills for children in at-risk situations in both of the towns Dwyane loves so much.

Russell Westbrook

The NBA star is a heartless assassin on the court, but off the court he has a heart of gold. Russell began the Why Not? Foundation, which works to help children who are facing hardships of any kind and, when faced with that adversity, to fight to succeed and never give up.

Ronda Rousey

The UFC fighter and Los Angeles native began giving back by volunteering to teach at the up-start Judo program in her hometown. She has since moved on to start her D.N.B. campaign, which aims to support women with mental health and body image issues.

Anquan Boldin

The NFL free agent and 2015 Walter Payton Man of the Year Award recipient runs the Q81 Foundation, which aims to expand the educational and life opportunities of underprivileged children, and has since held charitable events in communities he has called home throughout his career: Phoenix, Baltimore, South Florida, and the San Francisco Bay Area.

Chris Paul

The Chris Paul Family Foundation was created to honor the Los Angeles Clippers player’s late grandfather and his love of his hometown, Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He works to level the playing field in education, sports, and life for in-need youth.

Let this be a reminder that human kindness can overcome nearly anything. Download the STARZ app to catch up on Survivor’s Remorse now and don’t miss the season three premiere on Sunday, July 24 at 10 p.m. on STARZ.
