De'Launa Powell, 24, of Mobile, Alabama was looking forward to celebrating her 25th birthday this Friday. Instead of a party, her loved ones are now planning her funeral. Early Tuesday, October 18, 2016, around 5 am, her life was cut short. According to Mobile Police Chief James Barber, De'Launa was gunned down while sitting inside of her car at a stop sign. She was heading to work when she was shot multiple times. Barber believes someone tried to rob her. Multiple shell casings were found at the scene… “This young lady got up today, took a shower, got in her vehicle to go to work,” Barber said, “this is actually an attack on us as a community, as a society. This could have been anybody’s wife, anybody’s daughter”… "De'Launa was the kind of person that when she walked in the room, she made everyone smile," said her friend Jessica Silver. De'Launa's death has caused so many hearts to grieve. She was a loving and devoted mother of a five-year-old daughter and she was a talented make-up artist.
