UPDATE: 5:40 PM EST:

There’s at least one person who doesn’t believe George Zimmerman is innocent in this incident – the Chief Police of Lake Mary, Florida, Steve Bracknell.

Chief Bracknell says of Zimmerman, “The guy just can’t stay out of the news” — referring to the Trayvon Martin killing, speeding tickets and now this.  Bracknell says, “You’d think he’d get the heck out of Dodge.”

We’re told Shellie recanted her story after talking to her lawyer. The Chief said because of her flip-flopping, “There was not enough to affect an arrest, unfortunately.”

Bracknell seems concerned that Zimmerman is bent on causing trouble, saying, “It’s smoke, smoke smoke.  Is there a fire somewhere?  Lord knows.”

When TMZ asked if he would feel safe as Zimmerman’s next door neighbor, this is what he had to say.

The Chief was clear … “I would not want to be the neighbor of George Zimmerman.”

Ouch!

UPDATE: 5:30 PM EST:

Key witness and friend to the Zimmerman’s, John Donnelly, told MailOnline that the altercation was spurred by George Zimmerman’s affair with his ex-fiancee.

“George has been having an affair with his ex-fiancee. Shellie believes it flared back up after the acquittal.”

According to Mr Donnelly, Shellie confronted her husband who has been ‘AWOL’ since his acquittal and whose only contact with his wife has been via a number of texts stating simply: “I’m fine.”

Zimmerman was previously engaged to beautician Veronica Zuazo, who filed a domestic violence complaint against him in the past.

Police have taken George Zimmerman’s gun. He also told police that he was acting in self-defense.

According to Think Progress:

But Zimmerman has already offered a contradictory account in which he said he acted in “a defensive manner” and that Shellie was the aggressor — not unlike his self-defense claims during the Trayvon Martin trial.

More to come.

Looks like George Zimmerman can’t step away from his beloved guns.

The former neighborhood watch volunteer who shot and killed Trayvon Martin was taken into custody in Central Florida after an incident involving a gun and another person.

Sources say his estranged wife’s family was involved in the possible “domestic battery” incident.

According to Click Orlando

Lake Mary police say they were called to a house on Sprucewood Road Monday afternoon after a report that Zimmerman was involved in an altercation with another person with a threat involved.

No other details were immediately available.

Story developing.
