Upon its release last week, Grand Theft Auto V grossed $1 billion in sales. The game is the latest in the Grand Theft Auto franchise and has been criticized like each of its predecessors for grandiose violence. Players can hijack cars, have an arsenal of wildly violent weapons at their fingertips and carry out hyper-realistic missions.
There was a simpler time, however. When games presented a real challenge and violence and gore were kept to a minimum – relatively speaking, anyway.
Kids gathered around their TVs to help Mario save Princess Peach, chow down on the tiny yellow dots before the ghosts got to them in Pac Man, and lay the smack down on their opponents in Mortal Kombat.
A lot’s changed since then and technology has come a long way – a really long way. Game systems have evolved, technology has gotten better, and the games themselves have become more realistic – and a lot more violent.
Regardless, we’ll never forget the good old days and we don’t want you to either! So we’ve rounded up a list of the 10 Best Video Games From Before Grand Theft Auto V.
