In the final hours of the government shutdown debate last night on the House floor, Speaker John Boehner took a shot at President Obama, impersonating him.

On Monday evening, President Obama stated in a press conference that he will not be having any conversations that tie the implementation of Obamacare to the annual budget. POTUS made it clear that he views the Republican House members as part of the problem, using the budget as a way to ax his health care agenda.

During his press conference on Monday, Obama slammed Republicans for trying to “extract a ransom” at federal workers’ expense.

‘One faction of one party in one house of Congress in one branch of government doesn’t get to shut down the entire government just to re-fight the results of an election,’ he said.

Piggybacking on POTUS’ sentiment, Boehner jokingly impersonated President Obama Monday evening, saying:

‘I talked to the President earlier tonight: I’m not going to negotiate. I’m not going to negotiate. I’m not going to negotiate…I didn’t come here to shut down the government. The American people don’t want a shutdown, and neither do I.’

Speaker Boehner’s press secretary Brendan Buck posted the above photo of Boehner on the phone with the President at around 8:30PM Monday evening, but clearly their conversation did not end well, as the government shut down just a few hours later.

And, to add to the level of maturity, reporters covering the debate last night tweeted they could smell alcohol on the lawmakers working to strike a last-minute spending deal on Capitol Hill:

Gotta love it.
