The wounds of the Sandy Hook massacre may have been reopened with this week’s release of a report detailing what happened that fateful day, but Newton High School made sure that spirits were still high at last night’s football game dedicated to the victims.

Newton High School’s Nighthawks ended their season undefeated last night with a 42-7 win against Mausk High School.

According to BuzzFeed, the team dedicated the season to the victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting that took the lives of 20 children and 6 staff members.

The uniforms for Tuesday’s game included the number 26 and the color green — the official school color of Sandy Hook school — in the nighthawk emblem on the team’s helmet.

Good luck to The Nighthawks as they move forward to the state title championships! And as always, our prayers and thoughts are with the victims of the Newtown massacre.
