New York Mayor Bill de Blasio is making good on his promise to curb the NYPD’s controversial stop-and-frisk practice. This week, he announced that the city will settle its long-running legal battle over the Police Department’s practice of stopping, questioning and often frisking people on the street by agreeing to reforms issued by a judge in August. “We’re here today to turn the page on one of the most divisive problems in our city,” Mr. de Blasio said at a news conference. “We believe in ending the overuse of stop-and-frisk that has unfairly targeted young African-American and Latino men.” Read about it here…[NYT]

So this despicable thing happened. A Florida mom traveled 1,300 miles with her 15-year-old daughter to New York, just to pimp her out to Super Bowl fans. Yolanda Ostoloza, 39, was caught by detectives pretending to be johns looking for sex online. They agreed to meet the girl at a hotel and pay $200 for a sex act. “We came up here to work and make money with a pimp,” she told cops. “I knew it was for escorting and prostitution.” Terrible. The 14-year-old boy who shot his 17-year-old sister to death during an argument over laundry has finally surrendered. The teen fugitive turned himself in to Oakland police on Wednesday, six days after the attack. Relatives previously told reporters that Mario Toliver shot 17-year-old Justice Toliver — the mother of a 2-year-old girl — during an argument about the bleach she used on his clothing. Charges are unclear at this point. Read about it here…[HuffPost]

Fans may be turned off by Justin Bieber’s latest behavior, but at least he has one person on his side — Toronto Mayor Rob Ford. The disgraced politician appeared on a D.C. radio show Thursday and was asked about the controversy surrounding the Canadian pop star and the petition to deport him from the U.S. “He’s a young guy, 19 years old. I wish I was as successful as he was,” Ford told the hosts of “The Sports Junkies” on 106.7. “Nineteen years old, guys, think back to when you were 19, you know?” These two would make a hell of a duo, don’t you think?
