The Daily Grind Video
CLOSE

In February of 2004, after six seasons filled with wisdom about friends, fashion and fornication, Sex and the City aired its final episode. Our hearts filled with sorrow as we said goodbye to our four favorite friends: Charlotte York, Carrie Bradshaw, Miranda Hobbes and Samantha Jones.

This is not a time to mourn our loss, though. Rather, let us celebrate and cherish what we’ve learned through the life experiences of the ever-so-quotable Carrie and her gal pals. May we honor the memory of SATC by sharing its legacy with the generations that follow us with these most memorable quotes, from Carrie herself, and HBO Go memberships.

1.”I like my money where I can see it–hanging in my closet.”

Carrie’s vice may have been smoking cigarettes, but her biggest addiction (aside from Mr. Big) was to clothes. And purses. And shoes. Manolo Blahniks to be exact. While she had prosperity in her friendships, she worked hard for every penny she earned and rightfully spent it how she pleased. And there is nothing wrong with that.

2. “I will never be the woman with the perfect hair, who can wear white and not spill on it, and chair committees, and write thank you notes, and I can’t feel bad about that.”

Nobody is perfect. Not even Charlotte York. Perfection is unattainable, and it’s our flaws that make us more interesting. Instead of trying to be something you’re not, embrace who you are–unapologetically. That’s when you’ll truly find contentment.

3. “The universe may not always play fair, but at least it’s got a hell of a sense of humor.”

What else do you do after being mugged of your favorite pair of Manolos and coming face to face with your ex’s wife who informs you of their impending divorce after catching you in the middle of your affair with her husband in the same week? You push forward with optimism, of course! Because now he is single again, and deep down you know he’s your soulmate. Carrie was handed sour lemons, and with them, she made herself a lemon cosmopolitan.

4. “Maybe some women aren’t meant to be tamed. Maybe they just need to run free until they find someone just as wild to run with them.”

Contrary to popular belief, not all women are looking to be tied down right now. Just like the curly hair on Carrie’s head, some of us can’t be tamed, nor do we want to be. The fact of the matter is, there’s just too much life to live and not enough time to waste looking for a husband. When the right one comes along, you’ll know.

5. “‘Somewhere out there is another little freak who will love us and understand us and kiss our three heads and make it all better.”

There are seven billion people in this world. There’s at least eight million people in New York City alone. That means that there’s someone out there for you….no matter what you’re into (or how many heads you have).

6. “Later that day I got to thinking about relationships. There are those that open you up to something new and exotic, those that are old and familiar, those that bring up lots of questions, those that bring you somewhere unexpected, those that bring you far from where you started, and those that bring you back. But the most exciting, challenging and significant relationship of all is the one you have with yourself. And if you can find someone to love the you you love, well, that’s just fabulous. “

You’ve heard this before: love yourself first. There’s a lot to be learned from the relationships you have throughout the course of your life, but there is no better or more important relationship than the one you should have with yourself. Because, let’s face it, you’re amazing.

7. “When I first moved to New York and I was totally broke, sometimes I would buy Vogue instead of dinner. I felt it fed me more.”

When you’re pursuing your dreams, sometimes you must make sacrifices. Moving to one of the most expensive places in the nation is tough, but there’s nothing more fulfilling than living your dreams. It may not be the most nutritional decision, but, you get the idea.

8. “I’m looking for love. Real love. Ridiculous, inconvenient, consuming, can’t-live-without-each-other love.”

Over the course of six seasons, Carrie dated over two dozen men. That’s a whole lotta love! Through her experiences she was able to figure out the things she really wanted in a relationship, and “can’t-live-without-each-other-love” was one of them. The best type of love you may ever experience is one that you give into 100 percent–but only after loving yourself, first.

9. “Maybe the past is like an anchor holding us back. Maybe, you have to let go of who you were to become who you will be.”

You can’t move forward to tomorrow when you’re still stuck in yesterday. The uncertainty in your future may be scary, but it’s all about personal growth.

10. ‘They say nothing lasts forever; dreams change, trends come and go, but friendships never go out of style.”

Friendship is always flattering. Just look at these girls, for example.
