The beautiful and talented Selena would have been celebrating her 43rd birthday today, April 16th.

The Queen of Tejano Music’s life was cut short at the age of 23, when she was murdered on March 31st, 1995 by Yolanda Saldívar, the former president of her fan club.

In a short time, Selena became a cultural icon. She took home the award for Best Mexican-American Album at the 1994 Grammys. Her Ven Conmigo album was the first Tejano album recorded by a female artist to achieve gold status. Her success story was told through film in the movie, Selena, in which Jennifer Lopez played the starring role and brought the perfection that was Selena to the attention of millions who weren’t able to witness it when she was alive. Her final album, Dreaming of You, sold 175,000 copies in one day in the United States, a then-record for a female pop singer. It sold 331,000 copies its first week, debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200, and remained at the top of the Top Latin Albums and Latin Pop Albums charts for nine consecutive months. Selena then became the first solo artist to debut a posthumous album at number one in the United States.

George W. Bushgovernor of Texas at the time of Selena’s death, declared her birthday “Selena Day” in her hometown. So today, we celebrate “Selena Day” by focusing on everything that made us love her – her flawless curves, stunning smile, and pure perfection as a human being as told by gifs.

The Amor Prohibido Tour in 1995 was the final concert tour by Selena. No one knew it would be her last ever, but she gave one hell of a show in this sexy, signature bodysuit. She performed her own hits, as well as a disco medley.

“Funky Town”

“The Hustle”

“Last Dance”

“On The Radio”

She even performed Gloria Gaynor’s “I Will Survive.”

She was full of spunk and her attitude was always on point.

Pop ya collar, Selena!

Show them who the Tejano queen is.

She was a mommy’s girl.

Selena was obviously the original “turn up mami.”

Her outfits were almost as radiant as she was.

Selena owned the stage whenever she stepped foot on it.

She rocked her hips near waves of water.

She drove every man crazy. Remember “Anything for Selenas…”

She even taught one how to dance.

This lucky man had no choice but to follow her every move.

Her charm and sense of humor won the hearts of many.

Her smile was one of the wonders of the world.

There’s that smile again.

We’re starting to think her laugh was as epic as her smile.

Is this a love letter or fan mail bringing so much joy to Selena? We can only assume she received thousands on the daily.

Selena had the talent of being undeniably sexy…

…while always remaining classy and modest.

She slayed even in black & white photos.

The hat/bustier outfit became popular because of the Mexican fashionista.

Selena even made eating food look sexy.

Her mid-performance spins were absolutely flawless.

Who else is doing it in stilettos?

And a crop top?

Check out that fancy footwork after this spin.

Selena was a ballerina with this one.

Get into her luxurious locks following suit. Not a strand was out of place.

Her body was siiiiiiiick.

The midsection…

Those assets!

A cultural icon helping a reporter look almost as flawless as she does…

…while being the cutest thing in the universe at the same time.

She was such a graceful and stunning human being.

Happy 43rd Birthday, Selena Quintanilla-Perez.

May your beautiful soul continue to rest in peace.
