A little boy’s love for superheroes made for a heartbreaking but touching story that took the internet by storm this week.

Brayden Denton of Newton County, Indiana had been battling brain cancer since he was diagnosed on April 20, 2013.

His mother, Staci Denton described his battle, saying, “He stopped completely walking. … Then we got through that hurdle. Then he started not being able to eat or drink.”

And during every treatment, Denton said her son “always had some superhero with him.”

Sadly, the 5-year-old died on May 8. But to commemorate her son’s bravery, she planned a funeral she knew he would absolutely love. Spider-Man, Iron Man, Thor and Batman served as pallbearers in the service — aka little Brayden’s uncles and cousins.

“I felt like I was honoring him in a way that if he was looking down on us he would be happy,” she said.

And Brayden’s favorite?

Denton said Brayden has been a huge superhero fan — his favorite being Spiderman — since he was three. Since then, he has seen Spiderman on Broadway and even got to meet the superhero in Chicago.

We send our condolences to Brayden’s family during this difficult time. May he rest in peace.
