The heirs of Nancy Green, a woman born a slave in 1834 and the first Aunt Jemima, are suing Quaker Oats for a share of future revenue from sales of the household brand. The lawsuit, filed in August by two great-grandsons of Anna Short Harrington, say she and Green played an important role in formulating the recipe for the pancake mix. “Aunt Jemima has become known as one of the most exploited and abused women in American history,” said D.W. Hunter, one of Harrington’s great-grandsons. Quaker Oats, however, has responded by saying Aunt Jemima was never real. Read about it here…[USAToday]

A Delaware mother was arrested after her 4-year-old daughter unknowingly brought 249 bags of heroin to school and passed them out to other children at the daycare, believing the powdery substance to be candy. Children who came in contact with the unopened bags were taken to the hospital as a precaution. The mother, Ashley Tull, was arrested when she arrived at the daycare. She is charged with maintaining a drug property and endangering the welfare of a child. Read about it here…[NBC]

New York rapper Bobby Shmurda spent a night in jail after he was busted for smoking marijuana while double parked on a Brooklyn street. Friends of the 20-year-old rapper say he believes neighborhood cops are out to get him, according to TMZ. For the fame, of course. Read about it here…[TMZ]
