A Bronx woman arrested for possession of marijuana died in police custody Sunday after experiencing a seizure in a holding cell, police say.

A medical examiner has not yet confirmed the cause of death.

From the NY Daily News:

Detectives from the Brooklyn North Narcotics Bureau arrested Jasmine Lawrence, 22, for the criminal sale of marijuana and unlawful possession of marijuana on Bedford Ave. near Dean St. on Saturday about 8 p.m., police said.

She was brought to the 79th Precinct stationhouse in Bedford-Stuyvesant and placed in a holding cell by herself, cops said.

At 11:58 p.m., Lawrence began seizing, officials said. “At no time did she complain of any illness or condition,” a spokesman for the NYPD said.

Cops said EMS arrived within seven minutes and the woman was taken to Woodhull Hospital at 12:44 a.m. She was pronounced dead at 1 a.m.

An investigation is ongoing.
