We’re going to let you finish, but did Katy Perry really just call Kanye West a villain? Indeed, she did. But it’s not what you think.

Fresh off her halftime performance during Sunday’s Super Bowl (which was the most watched game ever, by the way), the “Roar” singer takes to the cover of ELLE magazine, and inside, she opens up about being a boss, Beyoncé (who knows a thing or two about that), and compares the world of pop to soap operas.

In soap operas, at least one person has to be the bad guy.

“You’ve got to name someone the villain, someone the princess, someone the mom-, the dad-type—you know, there always have to be characters,” Perry tells the magazine. “As pop figures, we’re all characters. And the media uses that. Who is the sweetheart, who is the villain? You know. Taylor’s the sweetheart. Kanye’s the villain. That’s the narrative.”

But we all know how Katy really feels about Tay Tay

For more from her interview, head on over to ELLE and pick up a copy on February 17.
