A few months ago, Mattel released a limited edition doll inspired by film director Ava DuVernay. After the dolls sold out, her fans took to social media to push the company to release more. Their cries were answered when the DuVernay doll went on sale again Monday afternoon. The doll, which was priced at $65, sold out within an hour. “We’re excited to share that the @AVAETC #Barbie doll has sold out! Thank you all for your excitement and making this collab such a success!,” read a tweet from the official Barbie account. The doll was originally released as part of the company’s “Sheroes” collection that included five inspirational women. “Embodying the empowerment message the brand stands behind, Barbie is honoring these Sheroes who, like Barbie, have broken boundaries, challenged gender norms and proven girls can be anything they want to be,” said Mattel in a statement. Supreme Court Rejects Second Amendment Case

Yesterday, the U.S. Supreme Court declined to hear a Second Amendment case in Illinois that sought to overturn a ban on assault weapons. There was no explanation in regards to what led the justices to that decision, but Clarence Thomas and Antonin Scalia were vocal about why they would’ve liked to hear the case. “There is no basis for a different result when our Second Amendment precedents are at stake,” said Thomas in a statement. “If a broad ban on firearms can be upheld based on conjecture that the public might feel safer (while being no safer at all), then the Second Amendment guarantees nothing. We cautioned courts against leaving the rest of the field to the legislative process: Constitutional rights are enshrined with the scope they were understood to have when the people adopted them, whether or not future legislatures or … even future judges think that scope too broad.” An advocacy group discovered that the Supreme Court has turned down more than 60 cases related to gun control. Former Mickey Mouse Club Member/American Idol Contestant Found Dead

Marque “Tate” Lynche, a former Mousketeer who made an appearance on American Idol as a contestant, has died. Lynche was found dead in his Harlem apartment located on W. 151 St. His body was discovered by his roommate. The cause of death is believed to be suspicious. “There was no note, no pills,” said a police official. “We’re waiting on the medical examiner.” Lynche appeared on the “All New Mickey Mouse Club” alongside Justin Timberlake, Brittney Spears, and Christina Aguilera. He nabbed the role of Simba in The Lion King and was also featured in Fame. In 2004, he was a semi-finalist in the American Idol competition. Lynche was 34-years-old. Read more.
